Poor nutrition adversely impacts the physical and cognitive development of children. More than 40% of Pakistani children under the age of 5 years have stunted growth. This occurs due to the lack of iron and other micronutrients in a child's body. In developing countries like Pakistan, food fortification is the most sustainable way to ensure children receive the micronutrients needed for healthy growth and development as iron deficiency can cause impaired tissue function and can lead to anemia.
